Biologic Medications

Find out what you need to know about starting a biologic medication here:

  • Check with your Primary Care Physician to ensure you are up to date on your vaccinations.
  • Complete all required lab work that was ordered for you.
  • Create a folder, or somewhere for you to keep track of the information you will be receiving, and track your injections and any symptoms you notice along the way.
  • It can take up to two weeks for us to hear back from your insurance in response to the initial prior authorization (PA) request.
  • If an appeal is needed, it can sometimes take 30-60 days for us to get a response from your insurance.
  • You will receive phone calls from the pharmaceutical company to welcome you to their support program. They will discuss your insurance benefits, any money saving programs you are eligible for, and the process moving forward.
  • You will receive phone calls from the specialty pharmacy that the prescription is sent to.
  • You might also receive phone calls from your insurance company.
  • These phone calls are time sensitive and will need your response in order to proceed with starting the medication.
  • You will be required to have a TB test done yearly.
  • Typically, you will be required to have a follow up appointment with your provider three months after your first dose of the medication. Your progress/improvement will need to be evaluated and documented for your insurance to continue to cover the medication.
  • Call us if you have any questions!
